Learnings in life - Year 2020 Week 15

Balkrishna Agarwal 11 min read

This week is going to be dull as I just let go & just did Binge watching. Though I did end up coding a bit. With central govt putting the onus on state governments, it doesn’t look like the lockdown is ending on this 15th, states like West Bengal, Maharashtra have already announced but I guess its going to be same all over. I just wish they don’t go for the overkill.

On with the learnings….

  1. What a wonderful painting! Hats-off.

  2. Profit - The word which had become irrelevant in the recent years & the only thing relevant was VIRAL GROWTH. Now that we have actual viral growth, we are moving back towards profits it seems, after all its the resilient who survive.

  3. A fascinating read about how a Muslim family is the key-keeper of the biggest Church, so that different christian factions dont fight over it.

& let me remind people Temples, Mosques, Churches, etc… are closed. Its hospitals that are open.

  4. Seriously! YES Bank is donating funds!? How does this work?

  5. Here’s some food for thought.

"If you don’t come out of this quarantine with either:

    1) a new skill

    2) starting what you’ve been putting off like a new business

    3) more knowledge

You didn’t ever lack the time, you lacked the discipline"

  6. You are the creator of your own destiny. Before finding love, learn to love yourself.

  7. Increasingly I believe that lock-down is not the solution, rather extensive testing with preventive measures is the solution.

  8. One of the reasons why this lock-down needs to end soon.

  9. This is such a wonderful & clear thought.

  10. One of the stories I am most fascinated by is the one of Zerodha. A classic David vs Goliath. One of the most fascinating parts of the story is that the biggest & flagship technology Broker has the tech team of 30. But its 30 today, when it was growing, it was far far less. They did this all with no funding!

  11. Hello World! is the blog of CTO of Zerodha. A treasure trove of knowledge.

  12. An awesome candid discussion with Kailash Nadh, CTO of Zerodha. People say when he talks, its poetry.

  13. World is filled with diversity & we often confuse them as weird. The fact is that different is not weird.

  14. A leader becomes a leader not just by being different but when he gets the first follower. Its the first follower who transforms weird into a leader :)

  15. Having said the above, don’t look for approval, Act! Action is what creates leaders, not approvals.

  16. One of the things that even Africans are tired of are the donations. They want local commerce & economy to flourish. Commerce is always better than donations.

  17. Here is a nice read on the various levels of autonomy or in other words how important a office is. Will we see a major shift to WFH once this period ends? Or will people love offices more for their social value?

  18. The kind of 2nd & 3rd & downstream order effects are just unfathomable.

  19. You don’t have the idea, its the idea that has you!

  20. Here’s a read on how the economy will reopen. The fact is nobody knows how this is going to play out for sure. There are a lot of moving variables, known & unknown.

China’s central Bank has bought more than 1% of shares in HDFC Bank. China has been on such a buying spree all across the world. European countries are already responding with stricter FDI norms to prevent this.

Here is the section on tools

  1. If you are looking to make an app, one of the most important things is to make flowcharts. Can also use to make workflow diagrams.

So that’s it for the week. Stay safe!
